Boris Vasiliev’s work “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” touches on many issues that are still relevant in our time.
Some of them are the problem of heroism, loneliness, courage and honor, compassion and empathy, the loss of a friend and comrade, the cruelty of war and its impact on a person’s character. What sacrifices is a mother willing to make for her child?
This literary work was dedicated to people who went through the Great Patriotic War, people who lost their loved ones and relatives, as well as in memory of those who were unable to return.
Let's take a closer look at some of them. The problem of loneliness is revealed by B.L. Vasiliev very accurately. So, Rita Osyanina, having lost her beloved husband on the second day of the war, is left alone with a child in her arms. The Great War takes away what is most precious to her. But, despite this heavy burden, there is no longer room for melancholy and worries in her heart. It is full of love for his son, for whom he can only live. She has to give him up to be raised by her mother, and go to the front herself, from which she fails to return.

In my opinion, Boris Vasiliev reveals the topic of the influence of war on a person’s internal qualities and character quite well. The work shows how the personal qualities of anti-aircraft gunners and sergeants are revealed in harsh military conditions. Girls have to take up arms, because in war a person’s age and gender are not important, but only his inner strengths, qualities, ability to fight and resist to the end for himself and his loved ones. Zhenya Komelkova's family was shot by the Germans, but thanks to her courage, sense of duty and immeasurable love, she was able to resist the Germans and take revenge on them. And Sergeant Major Fedot Vaskov showed himself as a person who is able to empathize with others, help and support them in difficult situations. He showed courage and heroism when he was on reconnaissance with Galya Chetvertak. Listening to each of the anti-aircraft gunners, he gave them advice and helped them believe that their bright future was possible. After all, Vaskov believed that women should not fight on equal terms with men, trying until the last minutes to protect them from cruel death.
Thus, in the work “And the Dawns Here Are Quiet,” the author shows readers how important it is not to lose a sense of duty, honor, patriotism, love and empathy even during war. B.L. Vasiliev described its events so accurately that, based on his story, we manage to feel all the pain that the heroes of this work experienced. The events described will be close to everyone who keeps the memory of the Great Patriotic War in their hearts.

Boris Vasiliev’s story “The Dawns Here Are Quiet...”, written in 1969, tells about girls who wanted to live, love, and have children. And they had to become soldiers to protect themselves and their loved ones. The author showed us war with an unusual facet: woman and war.
Boris Vasiliev, a front-line soldier, defended his native land from invaders. All his works about the war are based on the author’s personal perception of events, his assessment of what is happening.
The story takes us back to the distant 1942 to one of the crossings in the northern region. The war was already raging everywhere, and here was the rear. When German saboteurs unexpectedly appeared in these parts, five girls, together with foreman Vaskov, went to meet the Nazis. Pursuing enemies in the forest, they entered into an unequal battle with them - six against sixteen. The girls died, but did not allow the enemy to reach the White Sea-Baltic Canal.
The heroines of the story are female anti-aircraft gunners: Rita Osyanina, Zhenya Komelkova, Galya Chetvertak, Lisa Brichkina and Sonya Gurvich. Before the war, they studied, fell in love, dreamed. The war distorted their destinies.
All girls are both different and similar. Rita Osyanina is strict, strong-willed, restrained. Zhenya Komelkova is desperate, brave, sharp and beautiful. Lisa Brichkina is silent and hardworking. Galya Chetvertak is funny and dreamy. Sonya Gurvich is an excellent student and a poetic person. The author introduces each girl so unobtrusively that we manage to fall in love with them all, feel their experiences and feelings. A description of the nature of the places where the events took place also helps with this. Deaf forests untouched by war, birds singing, thick, spicy air - is it possible to die among this beauty?
The girls died, and there is no way to bring them back. Sonya Gurvich died from a knife blow to the chest. Galya Chetvertak died. Liza Brichkina got stuck in a swamp. Until the last moment, she struggled with the sticky quagmire and kept reaching out and reaching out to the sun, as if it were her last hope. Zhenya Komelkova put all her hatred of the fascists into her last shot. And Rita Osyanina committed suicide, being mortally wounded, and her little son will never see his mother.
Only Sergeant Major Vaskov survived, alone with his pain and rage. And such hatred for the enemy overwhelmed him, as if he were now the last defender of the Motherland. He wanted only one thing - revenge. The sergeant-major punished himself with the thought that he had not saved him and put all five of them behind a dozen Krauts.
The author brought his story to its logical conclusion: evil must be punished. Vaskov dealt with the Germans, he won. And the girls won too. They died, but the enemy, seasoned, strong, merciless, did not pass.
The feat of these girls, like the feat of everyone in the war, teaches us to believe that there is no death, but there is and should be only Life!
Reasoning
One of the best works written by B. Vasiliev is the story “The Dawns Here Are Quiet.” It was dedicated to the people, people who could not return from the war, and there were also many lines dedicated to close friends and comrades. Over time, everyone changes their attitude towards war, most people began to forget about the great feats that were accomplished by our ancestors for the benefit of the future generation. With the appearance of this work, many will remember those times that went down in history.
Vasiliev himself was a participant in the war, which is why he managed to convey to the reader all the nuances, all the terrible and cruel details of the Patriotic War. The author managed to describe the war so truthfully in the story that the reader gets a feeling of the complete reality of the events.
The work is written about women who served in the 1942 war. The action is about five young girls and their commander. The story is so absorbing that it makes you experience their experiences, fears and hopes along with the main characters. Young girls who have just begun to live are forced to defend their Motherland and fight for freedom. Each of them died in a struggle with fate, which punished them by not allowing them to experience all the beauty of life, destroying their plans and hope for a bright future. The war horribly divided their destinies into two parts, before the start of the war and after, they were forced to take up arms and defend their homeland.
One of the memorable heroes of this work was Fedot. The writer very vividly described this character, who was always very worried about each of the heroines of the work. His soul was tormented by torment, and his heart seemed to bleed, he experienced great pain at the sight of the suffering and torment that the young girl soldiers endured. Fedot Vaskov was an example of a real soldier who could be used as an example; he understood that a woman should be in the house, raise children and run the household, but not fight for her homeland. His main goal was to avenge the girls who were killed by the Nazis.
The merit of Boris Vasiliev is that he, as a writer, managed to convey to the present generation the images of the greatest heroes of that time. Thanks to the fact that the writer wrote about what he saw with his own eyes, clearly described the events of that time, he manages to immerse himself in the atmosphere of that period.

One word war evokes pain. And no one wants the war to start again, because it will bring a lot of pain and tears. Moreover, it lasted for a very long time and therefore became a real disaster for many countries and cities. Gradually, the fascists began to break all laws and act as they pleased.
And even though a lot of time has passed since then, we must not forget about those people who defended our Motherland and did everything to ensure that today we live without worries and hassle. Of course, today there are very few eyewitnesses left who saw all this with their own eyes and could also tell about everything. But all this can be learned from old books.
Vasiliev also decided to share his impressions and soon created a work called “And the dawns here are quiet.” It is here that all the events of that time are described and all the heroes who fought in the war to the last drop of blood, survived and brought us victory. But they themselves never returned home. The main characters were five girls who had to face these terrible events, as well as live in them and survive in different conditions.
But they still had a whole life that they did not have time to live. They did everything to ensure that today we live peacefully and without war. The war divided the lives of many people into “before” and “after”, and this difference was discernible. Girls are gentle creatures, but now they had to forget about everything and pick up a machine gun.
But most of all, Fedot was worried about the death of the girls, with whom they dealt with it and hid from the Nazis. The man understood that girls should not be at war, they should be at home and raise children and create comfort. And now he had only one choice left, he needed, at all costs, to take revenge on all the fascists for the death of each of the girls.
The story describes in various colors all the fears and horrors of war. And with the help of this book, the reader is transported to those very terrible events and experiences them together with the main characters.
And although the war lasted a very long time, our heroes managed to defend their homeland and win this battle. Only Fedot and the son of one of the heroines managed to stay alive. And they try to tell in colors everything that they managed to survive and go through.

War is a terrible word. It brought a lot of grief to people.
In the story “And the dawns here are quiet... “We are talking about the tragic events that took place during the Great Patriotic War. Or more precisely about the women who took part in it on an equal basis with men. Instead of home comfort, tenderness and love, fragile girls took the whole burden of that time on their shoulders.
This piece is very memorable. It is immediately clear that the author put his soul into it and described the events that he himself witnessed. After all, otherwise it would be impossible to create such living characters. Events and feelings are described so vividly that it is simply impossible to remain indifferent.
The story tells us about the events of 1942, when the war with Nazi Germany was in full swing.
One of the main characters, Sergeant Major, is Fedot Vaskov. He was the commander of an anti-aircraft machine gun battery. At first, his platoon was no different from the others. However, due to the relatively calm situation in the place where the platoon was stationed, the soldiers relaxed and began to “walk.” Voskovk had no choice but to write reports to the capital. As a result, they heard him and sent a platoon of “non-drinking” soldiers. But this is not really surprising, all the fighters are girls. Soon the Germans send a group of saboteurs to the location of their battery. Vaskov receives an order from his superiors to stop him at all costs.
To complete the task, the sergeant major takes with him five anti-aircraft gunners. Each of them had personal motives for hatred and a clear desire to take revenge on the Nazis for their ruined lives.
At first, the girls didn't really like the new commander. He seemed rude and narrow-minded to them. They even laughed at him. But during their joint service, they realized that Sergeant Major Vaskov was a brave and honest man, ready to do anything for the sake of his platoon.
Their small group went through many dangers together. However, the last foray turned into tragedy. All five girls died tragically. One of them, Sergeant Osyanina, before her death asked Fedot to take care of her son. Left completely alone, Vaskov understood perfectly well that he had no right to fail, otherwise he would not be able to forgive himself for the girls’ needless death.
It took a huge amount of effort for the sergeant major to complete the task. He still manages to accomplish a real feat. He was not only able to complete the task, but also go through the entire war.
Returning home alive, Vaskov fulfilled his promise and took Osyanina’s son to raise.
War is merciless. She destroys everything in her path. But the author wanted to show us that good always triumphs over evil. Thanks to this, we were able to see real heroes. And not those fictional ones from TV screens. And real ordinary people who did not spare their lives for the freedom of their homeland.
I can never forget this story. She shocked me and made me care about every character. The story deserves to be among the classics. I think everyone should read it.

This look out the window makes me feel more comfortable and warm at home. I’m sitting at the table, legs tucked under me as always, with a blank sheet of paper in front of me. Now it is white and cold as snow. I so want to fill this sheet with my thoughts and feelings, my warmth. After all, I will write about my favorite book “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” by Boris Vasiliev, as well as about the amazing film directed by Stanislav Rostotsky, based on this story. I would like to touch this work of Boris Vasiliev with my heart and soul. The topic of military glory is close and understandable to me. My family lives in a village near a military unit. Both of my grandfathers were participants in the Great Patriotic War. They have orders and medals. My dad was a military man for many years. He retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. But for some reason I have a feeling of guilt towards the War Veterans. I always remember about my grandfathers, but when do I remember about the other participants in these heroic events? In history and literature lessons or before Victory Day. And then I want to say seriously and loudly: “Thank you, dear, dear participants in the war, for your courage, for the fact that I, a tenth-grader from the village of Uralsky, Sverdlovsk region, live in a country free from fascism!” But I am silent or only with expression I read poetry on the school line. With the lines written today, I really want to express gratitude, respect, love for the people who gave the world Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Victory over fascism. A literature teacher introduced me to the works of Boris Vasiliev. At first I read because I was “assigned”, because I “had to,” but then I couldn’t tear myself away from the pages of the book. I read and sometimes cried. They shocked me so much. I thought that only a participant could have written such a truth about the war, so I went to the library and asked for books about Boris Vasiliev. It turns out that there are no such books in our library. And yet, in the encyclopedia I found an article about Boris Lvovich Vasiliev. He was born in 1924. This means that in 1941 he was 17 years old, and he had already fought. From that moment on, the writer’s works became even more interesting and dear to me. Re-reading the book, I disagreed with the author so many times, more than once I thought: “Was it worth it for the girls to die in this unequal battle?” Now I’m sure: “They did the right thing. They defended their homeland." How many landings and sabotage groups did the Nazis send to the territory of the Soviet Union? A lot of. And if everyone, having met them, thought: “Just think, a bunch of fascists!” How much harm they would do! What if every soldier thought: “Just think of a village, a station, a high-rise building!”? There would have been no victory... Rita Osyanina is right: they did not defend the channel, but the Motherland! What is dear to me in each heroine of the story? Of course, the desire to protect the Motherland, Russia. And against the backdrop of general grief, each of them had her own personal dream. A person cannot live without this! To be honest, I haven’t read about this in literature and maybe literary critics will not agree with me, but I can prove it. Rita Osyanina’s personal dream is to take revenge on the Nazis for the broken happiness in family life, for the death of her beloved husband, and to win a free, happy life for her child. Zhenya Komelkova could not forgive the Nazis for the death of her family. Sonya Gurvich constantly thought about her parents, who remained in Minsk, and dreamed that they would be alive and the war would end as soon as possible. And, no doubt, she was thinking about her “bespectacled neighbor at lectures.” Liza Brichkina, who just before the war had the opportunity to enter a technical school and change her life, dreamed of the end of the war. I am very sorry that Lisa died. It was about her that Boris Vasiliev wrote: “So many human lives were invested in Lisa herself that there was simply not enough room for the idea of death.” In my opinion, during the war she fell seriously in love for the first time, and perhaps long family happiness awaited her and Vaskov. It’s hard for me to talk about Gala Chetvertak. Of course, she thought that after the war her life would change, she would meet her love, which she had dreamed of so much in peacetime... But she was scared and let her friends down. I don't blame her. I have no right. Who knows what I would have done in her place? Undoubtedly, among B. Vasiliev’s works about the Great Patriotic War, my favorite is “And the Dawns Here Are Quiet.” Why? Mom and Dad have three of us children. And all of them are girls: Katya, Tanya and me, Masha. Dad, who always dreamed of a son, jokingly calls us a “women’s battalion.” And what? Somewhere he is right! We are all fighters, we don’t give in to difficulties, we believe that women can do many things just as well as men, for example, defend their homeland. Reading “And the Dawns Here Are Quiet,” I thought that sister Katya looked like Rita Osyanina. The same independent, restrained, responsible. And sister Tanya reminds me of the fragile, dreamy Sonya Gurvich. I may be writing “lofty words” now, but I really think so: my sisters and I love Russia no less than the heroines of Boris Vasiliev’s story. This is how we, girls from different times, are alike. When you read a book, you definitely imagine its characters. And I introduced it. It’s as if I had my own movie in my head based on Boris Vasiliev’s book. My literature teacher gave me a cassette of Stanislav Rostotsky’s film “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” to watch. At first I didn’t quite recognize my favorite heroines, but then I liked the film. Especially the end of the film, which shows that the girls’ feat has not been forgotten! In the epilogue, Boris Vasiliev does not use such bright colors as the director at the end of the film. A forest, a memorial plaque at the site of the death of the girls - anti-aircraft gunners, a bouquet of rowan trees, Vaskov and Rita's son Albert Fedotich bowing their heads, young boys and girls next to them - an amazing ending to the film. I even drew an illustration for Boris Vasiliev’s book “The Dawns Here Are Quiet.” This is an illustration for the "Epilogue". The drawing shows my vision of the episode: next to Vaskov and Albert Fedotich in front of the memorial plaque, I, Berintseva Masha, a girl from the 21st century, standing incredibly grateful to all participants in the Great Patriotic War. It's almost night outside. I went to bed and kept looking at the table where my scribbled pieces of paper lay. Even though it was dark, it seemed to me that they were glowing! Because what is written contains part of my soul, my heart.
