Essay on what courage is

Reasoning What is Courage

What is courage? This is a person’s ability to overcome his fear in the event of any danger. Courage is often confused with fearlessness, however, they are not the same thing. It seems to me that no people are fearless; each of us has our own fear or something that causes anxiety or excitement. Courage is a person’s conscious actions in the face of danger.

Writers often touch on the theme of courage, bravery, and bravery in their works. Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov in the poem “ Borodino ” talks about the masculinity and courage of the Russian people during the Battle of Borodino.

The story is told from the perspective of a soldier who proudly talks about the courage of the brave fighters. During the battle on the battlefield, many soldiers gave their lives to save the Fatherland. Their feat went down in history forever as an example of masculinity and patriotism.

The Great Patriotic War became a difficult test for our country. Therefore, it is no coincidence that many works of that time are a reflection of the courage, heroism, and bravery of the Russian people.

The story “The Fate of a Man” by M. A. Sholokhov tells the story of the life of Andrei Sokolov. Throughout the war, the hero courageously endures the difficult trials that befall him. He overcomes the fear of death, captivity, and battles. Finding himself captured by the enemy, Andrei Sokolov shows courage and determination.

Refusal to obey the invaders could cost the hero his own life. During the war, a soldier loses what is most precious to him – his family. Despite the tragedy, Andrei Sokolov remains human. After losing his family and going through trials, the hero takes in an orphaned child. The soldier has a brave humane heart.

In our world there are professions that are based on human courage. For example, a rescuer shows courage and courage when entering a burning house, the roof of which could collapse at any minute. A rescuer shows determination and courage by fighting fear to save others.

Courage is an important human characteristic. The ability to fight our fears allows us to live with dignity and be honest with ourselves. Courage can be demonstrated in both large and small actions.

The courage of the heroes of the presented works is an example of heroism. But every day we have to fight our “small” fears. For example, someone has difficulty speaking in front of an audience. Such a person has to suppress his fear before each performance, show determination and courage.

What kind of person can be considered brave?

From time immemorial people have given glory to the brave. But what is courage? In my opinion, courage is a human quality that lies in the ability to put one’s life in danger for the well-being of others. A person who accomplishes a feat, who, without thinking or worrying about himself, rushes to help those in need, is usually called brave.

An example of a brave person is the hero of the text V.P. Krapivina Volodya. At first glance, you wouldn't think that a little boy dreaming of vacation could be a real hero.

However, without hesitation, he rushes to the rescue of his favorites as soon as the barn with the horses is engulfed in fire: “Volodya was cutting and unwinding the belts, trying not to think about anything... He just hurried himself: quickly, quickly!” These sentences show: a brave person will not think about his own benefit when trouble is nearby and someone needs his help.

Another example of a brave person is Danko, the hero of M. Gorky’s story “ The Old Woman Izergil ”. He led his people through the forest to save them from slavery, but along the way a thunderstorm began and the forest was covered in pitch darkness. Then people began to get angry and scold Danko.

Danko did not give up: he felt that he had the courage to lead people, because he loved them. He tore his heart out of his chest to light their way. This hero proves to us that a brave person does not expect gratitude, does not think about his own benefit, he is ready to sacrifice himself for the well-being of those he loves.

After analyzing two examples, we can conclude: courage is the property of a strong-willed person, devoid of vanity, selfishness and capable of self-sacrifice.

Essay text:

Courage is an inherent human quality based on the ability and willingness to help someone who is in danger. While other people get confused and panic when they get into trouble, brave people do not hesitate to come to the aid of a person in trouble. A courageous person is not afraid to risk his own life when he understands that his actions affect the lives of people or other living beings. A person who has the inner quality of courage does not think about the consequences for himself. While everyone else is thinking about what is best to do so as not to endanger their own lives, brave people are already rushing to help, without even thinking that they themselves might get hurt. For such people, it is important to help someone who is in danger.

The problem of courage is discussed in the text by V.P. Krapivin. It depicts the boy Volodya, who witnessed the fire near the stables. Volodya did not wait for help from adults, he took everything into his own hands and realized that he depended only on the lives of the tied horses, which could not run away alone. The boy realizes that it is too late and the fire will catch up with the animals when he calls for help. The hero does not think about what to do, he immediately goes to help the horses. Volodya sees that the fire is getting bigger and bigger, that the wind is spreading it stronger and stronger. Throughout the story, it is emphasized that the fire can catch the boy at any moment. But Volodya, risking his own life and trying not to think about the approaching fire, does not retreat until he frees all the animals.

The problem discussed in the text is reflected in many works of fiction. In the poem by A.T. Tvardovsky's "Vasily Terkin" the main character is depicted as a man of courage. Throughout the story, it is shown that Vasily Terkin is ready to give his life to save his homeland from the enemy. Thus, in the chapter “Crossing”, Vasily Terkin is shown crossing an icy river, where, as the narrator notes, even the fish were frozen. Vasily Terkin does this so that those on the other side know that his train is alive and waiting for reinforcements. The hero understands that if no one swims to the other side, the train may not wait for reinforcements. Without thinking for a second, Vasily Terkin sets off into difficult, almost unrealistic conditions. The main character is not afraid of difficulties, he risks his own life for the good of the fatherland, which needs help in the fight against the enemy.

From the above, we can conclude that courage is a human trait based on the desire to help those who are in difficult situations, even if they have to sacrifice themselves for this. Courageous people do not wait for others to come to their aid, but act courageously and bravely on their own initiative.

Essay on the topic “Courage”

It is impossible to answer the question of what courage is unambiguously. People are accustomed to talking about courage when bright, heroic deeds are performed: saving drowning people, saving a person from a fire, or protecting a person from hooligans. Many brave things were done in war or in a combat zone.

Yes, indeed, simply heroic deeds were committed. People did them so that their homeland would not be captured by the enemy. They protected their relatives from the enemy. It was very hard for them, but they endured everything.

Can a person always show courage in his actions? Yes, no, not every time. A person's courage can manifest itself completely unexpectedly. Most often it appears when a person is protecting something near and dear.

At this moment he can do anything. He may not expect this from himself. In extreme cases, people produce a certain amount of adrenaline.

Courage is the ability to overcome your fear. This is an opportunity to take decisive action. It is the manifestation of courage that allows a person to overcome his complexes. It manifests itself in a person before real danger.

It is this feeling that helps a person soberly assess extreme situations.

Very often, it is the courage that a person lacks to decide on something. This prevents progress and slows down development. We must always look forward boldly and not get lost in inappropriate situations. No matter what, courage moves a person forward.

Courage develops a person's ability to overcome difficulties. She helps you do what you think is necessary and what you want.

A person needs to develop a sense of courage. Then he will be able to handle any difficulties.

Courage is a very good character trait. It makes people worthy of respect. A brave person must realistically represent the full extent of the danger. Then it will act as fully as possible.

It is a brave person who has a beautiful and firm gait. Courage is control over your emotions, the ability to control yourself and your actions.

So, a brave person is not one who does not know fear, but one who can realistically assess danger.

Courage and cowardice

It is generally accepted that a brave person is not afraid of anything. But is it? In order to answer this question, it is necessary to define what courage means and what it is like. In dictionaries, courage is a positive moral and volitional personality trait, manifested as determination, fearlessness, courage when performing actions associated with risk and danger.

Indeed, courage is usually associated with walking on the edge, with the threat of life, but it can also manifest itself in everyday situations. Brave people are found not only in war, we meet them everywhere.

One can be called brave who is not afraid to express his opinion, who has the courage to be different from the majority, and is able to perceive new things. Does courage presuppose fear? In my opinion, only a fool is not afraid. There is no shame in being afraid, but only a person who overcomes fear can be called brave.

Many writers have addressed this topic. Thus, E. Ilyina’s story “The Fourth Height” is dedicated to overcoming fears. Gulya Koroleva is an example of courage in all its manifestations. Her whole life is a battle with fear, and each of her victories is a new height.

In the work we see the life story of one person, the formation of a real personality. Every step she takes is a manifesto of determination. From the first lines of the story, little Gulya shows real courage in different life situations. Overcoming her childhood fears, she takes the snake out of the box with her bare hands and sneaks into the cage with the elephants at the zoo.

The heroine grows, and the challenges encountered in life become more serious: the first role in a movie, the admission of being wrong, the ability to take responsibility for one’s actions. Throughout the entire work he does what he is afraid of.

Having matured, Gulya Koroleva gets married and has a son. It seems that all fears have been conquered, she can live a calm family life, but the biggest test awaits her: the war begins, and her husband goes to the front. She is afraid for her husband, her son, the future of the country, but fear does not paralyze her, does not force her to hide.

The girl goes to work as a nurse in a hospital to make her contribution. Unfortunately, her husband dies, and Gula has to fight alone. She goes to the front, unable to look at the horrors happening to her loved ones.

The heroine takes the “fourth height.” She dies, having defeated the very last fear living in a person, the fear of death. On the pages of the story we see how the main character is afraid, but overcomes her phobias.

The problem of overcoming fear is also explored in Veronica Roth's novel Divergent. Beatrice Prior, the main character of the work, leaves her home, the Abnegation faction, to become Fearless. She is afraid of her parents' reaction, afraid of not going through the initiation rite, of not being accepted in a new place.

But her main strength is that she challenges all her fears and faces them. Tris exposes herself to great danger by being in the company of the “Dauntless” because she is “different”, people like her are destroyed.

This scares her terribly, but she is much more afraid of herself. She does not understand the nature of her difference from others, and is horrified by the thought that her very existence could be dangerous for people.

The fight against fears is one of the key problems of the novel. So, Beatrice’s lover’s name is Faure, which means “four” in English. This is exactly the number of fears he needs to overcome.

Tris and For fearlessly fight for their lives, justice, and peace in the city they call home. They defeat both external and internal enemies, which undoubtedly characterizes them as brave people.

I would like to complete my thoughts with M. Twain’s : “Courage is resistance to fear, not its absence.” Indeed, there is no need to be afraid of fear and associate it with cowardice; you need to fight it, overcoming not only external circumstances, but also resolving internal conflicts.

Essay What actions can be called courageous?

Actions that demonstrate determination and courage, self-confidence, confrontation with one’s own fears, and sometimes with society, can be called courageous. To perform such actions, a person must have high willpower and spirit. Such qualities are certainly needed in life. As they say, “the city takes courage.” That is, a brave person can control the world if he is not afraid to make decisions, act selflessly, look “in the eye,” and defend what you believe in.

In the work of V.K. Zheleznikov's "Scarecrow" the courage of the heroine Lena lies in the fact that, under the pressure of her new environment, fears, injustice, she was able to remain a brave girl. Lena was not afraid to be special, to act as she felt. When she took Dimka's guilt on herself and kept it a secret until the very end, Lena showed real courage, despite the fact that Dima also offended her.

The girl also had enough courage to cut her hair and put on that same burnt dress in order to confirm the image of the scarecrow and so come to her classmates, expressing to their eyes everything that she was thinking. Such strength of character helped Lena not break and show everyone how brave and generous she is.

Danko is a hero with a burning heart, the embodiment of courage. By taking responsibility, he led people who were cowardly and was able to save their lives. The people did not believe in him, they were afraid to go, but Danko’s own confidence helped everyone. He tore out his own heart, showing people his dedication and desire to save them. For such a heroic act he was not awarded, but rather suffered from those he saved. This is a vivid example of a brave person in whom fearlessness, faith in goodness, and an unshakable sense of self-confidence live.

Brave people are capable of great things. You must strive to be courageous in your actions, thoughts and relationships with others. By defending his interests, fighting for justice, showing courage, a person commits a very courageous act.
