What is fortitude? (life examples for essay 15.3)

Examples

One example of fortitude is Pasha Pasynkov from the work of the same name by K. Chukovsky.
At the cost of his own life, he decides to take the fire of all enemy anti-aircraft guns on himself. Pasynkov's plane burns and becomes uncontrollable, but he still manages to land on the Neva. So the hero managed to keep intact not only houses and several bridges, but also many human lives. All this is thanks to the willpower of the protagonist. Also, an example of firmness of spirit can be found in the texts of L. Ovchinnikova. They talk about the children of besieged Leningrad. Many of them were left without parents; before their eyes, houses collapsed and people died of hunger. Children gathered at the first call in the Palace of Pioneers, despite hunger, cold and deprivation. There they practiced knitting, sewing, drawing, dancing and singing. Then they did not yet know about the power that art has. The kids came to perform on a military cruiser. Adults who had to deal with death every day were amazed at the strength of the children’s spirit.

Strengthening inner resilience

And here is what the French writer and entomologist J. Fabre said about this: “Happy, thrice happy is the man who is tempered by the adversities of life.” It is believed that by going through life's difficulties, a person becomes stronger. After all, a crisis is a turning point when previous actions turn out to be ineffective, and a person has not yet come up with new ways of behavior.

A mentally strong person is one who knows how to invent these ways of coping with a difficult life situation. Anyone who does not know what fortitude is has every chance of finding it in difficult circumstances. It is the positive experience of meeting difficult situations that strengthens a person. After all, this knowledge will give him confidence in the future. If he was able to deal with problems before, he will know that he is capable of solving these problems.

Summarize

The realities of today's life are such that, willy-nilly, a person has to cultivate a strong personality. This is understandable: someone who has a strong character, perseverance and knows how to stand up for themselves, achieves results more easily and adapts to circumstances faster than someone who constantly complains about life, shifting responsibility for their actions to others, and is subject to the fear of any changes.

Man by nature is a unique creation. Each of us has our own pros and cons, character traits, beliefs. You should not think that strong people do not have shortcomings; they also have weaknesses, but they know how to work on them.

Remember, everything is under your control. You can overcome any obstacles, make your most cherished dreams come true, the main thing is to work on yourself every day, improve your advantages, turn disadvantages into advantages, respect yourself and your opinion and not be afraid to move forward. A tree does not become strong immediately; it, too, was once a thin stem with a weak root system, like the rest of us. We are not born with inner strength. We ourselves generate this strength within ourselves.

Good luck!

Nando Parrado survived the plane crash and waited 72 days for help

The survivors of the disaster drank the melting snow and slept side by side to avoid freezing. There was so little food that everyone did everything to find at least some living creatures for the common dinner. On the 60th day after the accident, Nando and his two friends decided to walk through the icy desert for help. After the plane crash, Nando lost half of his family, and in the time after the disaster he lost more than 40 kg of weight. He is currently engaged in lecturing on the power of motivation in life to achieve goals.

Circumstances in which a person has a chance to become stronger

Sometimes it happens that a difficult situation in a person’s life does not find a solution for a long time. In this case, the human spirit does not become stronger. One does not lose hope that everything can change for the better. The other simply adapts to new living conditions. In the latter case, the person does not become stronger, his spirit remains weak. After all, avoiding a difficult situation is not a way to overcome life’s obstacles.

For example, a person may quit a job where he is having problems. And at his next workplace a similar situation will await him. Or he cannot build good relationships and strives to find a new husband or wife. In this case, he will also face similar problems. After all, in the previous situation he did not learn a valuable lesson, which means that life will continue to confront him with similar circumstances until he learns to strengthen his spirit and overcome the obstacles facing him.

Patrick Henry Hughes, being blind and having undeveloped limbs, became a great pianist

Patrick was born without eyes and with deformed, weakened limbs, making him unable to stand. Despite all these conditions, the child began to try to play the piano at the age of one year. Later, he was able to enroll in the University of Louisville School of Music Marching and Pep Bands, after which he began playing in the Cardinal Marching Band, where his tireless father constantly took him in a wheelchair. Now Patrick is a virtuoso pianist, winner of many competitions, his performances have been broadcast by many television channels.

Essay 3

What is fortitude? And in general, why does a person need it? Strength of spirit is a certain thirst and determination that will help a person achieve his goals, will go towards them, despite all the difficulties and obstacles that will be contrary to his dreams, he will go through them no matter what. Not every person has this ability called “Fortitude”. Why is that? Well, the fact is that you can develop it and get it out of yourself, but many people want everything at once, so that’s why not everyone has this ability. This ability is needed in order to achieve your goals despite all the obstacles and difficulties in life. So that you go through a difficult stage with dignity with your head up and not complain that it’s difficult for you, that you can’t. When you have a strong spirit, there can be no excuses. There is only the goal and you. That's all!

Now I will tell you about how I went through the stage of developing fortitude, determination and confidence. I remember when I was in school, from first to fourth grade my parents took me to school. Yes, I don’t argue, it sounds funny and maybe even ridiculous, but this is the truth of my life. When my parents took me to school, when I was in the fourth grade, I already felt somehow awkward and, one might even say, ashamed of myself. Having gone to the fifth grade to a completely different school, which was further away from my previous one, I made a decision for myself that I would go to school myself. For me, this was the first stage of establishing fortitude.

Then I went to play football, where else but in sports can you develop a strong spirit? I personally didn't know. Thus, I played football for six years, and I developed the strength of spirit, that’s for sure. Because believe me, when you are on the edge of your capabilities, but you need to do it, there are no excuses, it seems to you that you literally can’t stand it anymore, but you move on no matter what. I walked through excitement, through the grief of defeat, tears and joy. And all this brought up a strong spirit in me!

The next stage in the development of fortitude was one video blogger, Igor Voitenko. Watching his video, I realized that you need to plan your day, visualize in your head the process of who you want to be in five years, 10 years, and so on. Igor taught me to do something that I had never done before. For example, I have never read a book. This year I read about 6 books on self-development and psychology. After I left football, I didn’t want to play sports, there were personal reasons. But watching Igor, I became terribly motivated and began to pump up my muscles every day. The results were amazing, because after a month you could see with the naked eye how pumped up and strong I became.

Turia Pitt suffered severe burns in a fire

The story of the Australian fashion model Turia Pitt, who lost her face after a fire, cannot leave anyone indifferent. At 24, she was caught in a terrible fire in which 64% of her body was burned. The girl spent six months in the hospital, went through many operations, lost all the fingers on her right hand and 3 fingers on her left. Now she lives her life to the fullest, posing for magazines, playing sports, surfing, cycling and working as a mining engineer.

What is fortitude? (According to the text by L. Ovchinnikova.)

Strength of spirit is the inner core of each of us, and depending on what it is, this core, strong or not, characterizes a person, endowing him with strength or weakness. I believe that a person with a strong spirit will not be bent by any adversity or test.

Thus, L. Ovchinnikova’s story “Fouette on the Siege Stage” tells how the Leningrad children survived the blockade winter: the Ivanov sisters’ mother died, “Vera Borodulina lost her father, Vitya Panfilov survived the death of seven relatives...”. There was grief in every family. But all these guys were strong in spirit. After some time, a palace of pioneers began operating in the city, where various circles operated. Art helped children survive. In the summer of 1942, the guys were invited to a military cruiser, where they showed their talents to the soldiers going into battle. Tears flowed down the cheeks of the sailors, who had more than once looked death in the face: they, who knew the value of courage, saw the strength of spirit of Leningrad schoolchildren.

Another example can be the story “Cheryomukha” by E.Yu. Shima. This tree stood throughout the Leningrad winter. Then there was such severe frost in the houses that the water froze, and there was frost on the walls. But no one touched the bird cherry, although it grew not in the garden, not in the park, but right in the middle of the street, not guarded by anyone. People were so strong in spirit that even on the verge of death they thought about beauty and the approach of spring.

Thus, fortitude helps a person to be strong in the most extreme situations.

Text 12.2 (from the essay by L. Ovchinnikova “Fouette on the blockade stage”)

(1) In the spring of 1942, two girls, Nyura and Raya Ivanova, walked slowly along the Leningrad streets. (2) For the first time after the long winter of the siege, they set off on foot from the Petrograd side to Nevsky Prospekt, to the Palace of Pioneers. (3) They walked around overturned trams, hid from explosions in gateways, and made their way through piles of ruins on the sidewalks. (4) The third girl was buried by her mother, who had died of hunger, and was left alone in a smoky apartment with ice-covered walls. (5) To keep warm, they burned furniture, clothes, and books. (6) The weakened Nyura, before the war the soloist of the famous ensemble led by Isaac Osipovich Dunaevsky, was taken on a sled to an orphanage by girls - fighters of the air defense detachment. (7) Raya Ivanova entered a vocational school. (8) At the end of the first blockade winter, they were found by the head of the studio R.A. Varshavskaya. (9) Like other employees of the Palace of Pioneers, she, only recently discharged from the hospital, went to the surviving addresses to find her pets. (10) Before the war, Anichkov Palace was a fairy-tale children's kingdom, and now it was again preparing to welcome children.

(11) The seemingly incredible news was passed from mouth to mouth: “The Palace of Pioneers is waiting for us!” (12) This news could not be learned either from newspapers or from radio messages. (13) The Palace of Pioneers was marked on Hitler's maps as a military facility. (14) How both the Hermitage and the Russian Museum were marked.

(15) From district to district, from house to house, they passed it on as a password: “Gather at the appointed hour...”, and children moved along the streets of the besieged city - this is how the feat of teachers and students of the Leningrad Palace of Pioneers began.

(16) The children, of course, were deeply shocked by the war. (17) They saw how houses were collapsing from explosions, how people were falling unconscious from hunger. (18) Vera Borodulina lost her father, Vitya Panfilov survived the death of seven relatives... (19) There was grief in every house. (20) There were almost two more years of blockade ahead...

(21) And in May 1942, numerous circles worked at the Palace of Pioneers: dance, vocal, piano, handicrafts, drawing, artistic expression. (22) Art helped children survive, but they did not yet know about its true power.

(23) In the summer of 1942, the guys were invited to a military cruiser for the first time. (24) They drove off in a truck, taking musical instruments and dance costumes. (25) On the deck of the ship, Vitya Panfilov played Tchaikovsky’s melodies, Raya Ivanova danced, Vera Borodulina read poetry. (26) Tears flowed down the cheeks of the sailors, who had more than once looked death in the face. (27) Having learned the price of courage, the sailors saw the strength of spirit of Leningrad schoolchildren. (28) The cruiser was preparing to go into battle, from which not everyone would return, and these guys had inspired hope itself. (29) Saying goodbye to the children, the team lined up. (30) The guys began to present gifts that they had brought with them. (31) Taking a cloth pouch from the girl’s hands, the foreman, who had two military orders on his chest, said: “I accept the third award of the Motherland.” (32) The sailors knew the value of courage. Option 2

From various examples of art we can learn about what fortitude is. There are also many examples from everyday life when such quality is manifested.

Of course, history is written by the winners and they often embellish their own merits. Sometimes some people’s actions are idealized, and everyday life is presented as strength of spirit. However, there are truly phenomenal feats that could only be accomplished by people with fortitude.

For me, such an example is the act of Tsar Alexander III, who with his own hands held the roof of the carriage in which he was traveling and held it until the others got out. Perhaps there is some exaggeration here, but it seems to me that this feat really was like that and in fact the king showed, so to speak, his royal nature.

By the way, in my opinion, strength of spirit largely determines one’s position in society and the attitude of other people. It is difficult to become a truly respected person and a truly valuable person in society without this quality. The amazing thing about this property is the ability to feel the strength of the spirit with some special feeling.

No one has a special measuring device, however, it is often easy to understand from a person whether he has fortitude or vice versa. This parameter can be developed and trained. After all, it is unlikely that anyone who has accomplished a feat or something similar has previously developed their own spirit at all.

On the contrary, fortitude is given only to people who constantly cultivate this quality. In many ways, it can even be the opposite of physical strength.

Some bodybuilder may develop muscles and be able to lift heavy dumbbells, but he will chicken out even in the slightest danger or “come apart” in a difficult situation. On the other hand, there are spiritually strong people who are not distinguished by outstanding physical strength, but at the same time they always behave confidently. Such confidence is often explained by understanding the world.

A person who develops spiritual strength understands the primacy of the spirit over the material, in particular over the body. Such people do not pay attention to their own body; they are more focused on their inner world and their own spirit.

Esther Verger - multiple champion with paralysis

As a child, she was diagnosed with vascular myelopathy. In connection with this, an operation was performed, which, unfortunately, only worsened everything, and both legs were paralyzed. But the wheelchair did not stop Esther from playing sports. She played basketball and volleyball quite successfully, but tennis brought her worldwide fame. Verger became the champion of Grand Slam tournaments 42 times.

Option 2 with examples

Strength of spirit is a manifestation of character traits in an extreme situation of a strong, strong-willed person. Strength of spirit allows a person to overcome incredible difficulties and, in moments of danger, make the right decision and not give in to panic. This is the ability to show resilience and courage. People with such qualities are capable of great feats. They do not give up under any circumstances and do not despair in dangerous situations. They always believe in themselves.

A lot of feats were accomplished thanks to the strength of spirit alone! We admire people who have shown perseverance and endurance. We call them heroes, books have been written about them, films have been made about them.

The manifestation of the will and fortitude of the Russian soldier is very fully revealed in Sholokhov’s work “The Fate of a Man,” where many examples of the manifestation of perseverance and heroism are given. The life of the main character Andrei Sokolov is filled with hardships, difficulties and grief, but this did not break the man, and, it seems, even strengthened his character. He stoically endures captivity and achieves freedom through escape. He was able to escape only because he did not lose heart and showed perseverance and courage. But fate continues to test the soldier’s strength: upon returning from captivity, he learns about the death of his family. The loss of his wife and daughters is an irreparable loss, but Sokolov finds the strength to live on. Having overcome all the blows of fate, he did not despair, retained his kindness and humanity, which allowed him to adopt an orphan boy. The soldier had a meaning in life, a family appeared.

Another striking example of the manifestation of fortitude is the story of the pilot Maresyev, told by war correspondent Boris Polev in the work “The Tale of a Real Man.” In the story, the author changed the hero's surname by one letter, he became Meresyev. The pilot, after the plane crashed behind enemy lines, with crushed legs, made his way through the forest for eighteen days to reach his own people. It was only thanks to his will and perseverance that he survived and returned to duty after amputation of his frostbitten legs. Meresyev’s overcoming of all the trials that befell him and his further successful service in the aviation regiment speak eloquently of his unbending courage and enormous fortitude.

Works about the Great Patriotic War clearly demonstrate to us the strength of spirit of an entire people, and not just individuals. Despite the power, good equipment and training of the enemy, the Soviet people rallied and defeated the invader. We had to overcome hunger, deprivation, and fierce battles, but our grandfathers survived and won. And each of them was ready to sacrifice themselves for the sake of Victory. This is the power of spirit!

What is fortitude? (According to the text by Yu. Yakovlev 2021.)

Strength of spirit is the main moral quality of a person, which makes him stronger. It is formed through will and perseverance. In my opinion, fortitude is the high spiritual and mental fortitude of an individual.

In the text by Ya.Yu. Yakovlev, Grandfather Peshekhodov tells adults and children about the soldiers who, having shown their fortitude and perseverance, were able to overcome all obstacles and reach Berlin. It is thanks to their fortitude that we all now live under a peaceful sky above our heads...

In the story “And the Dawns Here Are Quiet,” B. Vasiliev talks about five girls whose spiritual strength was just as persistent. They, unafraid of sixteen Nazi Germans, fight bravely to defend the Kirov Railway. They fight to the last, showing courage.

Thus, fortitude is a human trait that includes firmness, perseverance, steadfastness, and inflexibility.

Text

(1) When they write an essay about the war at the Belozersk school, the teachers know: Peshekhodov’s sons, Semyon and Vasily, will definitely appear in someone’s notebook. (2) The sons will either throw themselves under the tank, or find themselves in burning Stalingrad, or save the regimental banner. (3) And, having read, for example, that Semyon and Vasily were the first to ram the fascist Messer, the teachers are not indignant and do not give free rein to the red pencil. (4) They know what's going on.

(5) On Sundays, an old man with faded eyes appears in crowded places in Belozersk.

(6) It is difficult to determine the former color, as if the eyes were clouded with smoke, and the color could not be seen through the smoke.

(7) The old man is wearing a soldier’s tunic.

(8) Pedestrians do not linger among adults; their best friends and listeners are children.

(9) These bombard him with questions, which he answers with great eagerness. (10) Moreover, he is waiting for these questions and, answering them, experiences an amazing feeling, familiar only to a drying tree, when a leaf suddenly turns green on its knotted dead branch.

- (11) Grandfather Pedestrians, is it true that you walked to Berlin during the war? - one of the little interlocutors asks the old man.

(12) And the old man answers:

- (13) I walked to Berlin... on foot. (14) And that’s why my last name is Peshekhodov.

- (15) Aren’t you tired?

- (16) Tired. (17) What can you do! (18) You walk and walk, and there is no end in sight. (19) I never caught up with my sons.

- (20) Did they walk quickly?

- (21) Quickly.

- (22) On foot?

- (23) On foot. (24) They are my Pedestrians... (25) Only my sons are younger. (26) Their legs are quick. (27) I couldn’t keep up with them.

(28) Gradually the circle of listeners increases. (29) Newcomers and those who have already listened to Grandfather Peshekhodov many times come. (30) These know his answers in advance, but are patiently silent. (31) They and the old man seem to be playing out a performance. (32) And everyone knows their role well.

- (33) Grandfather Pedestrians, - the guys ask for the umpteenth time, - who met the Germans near the Bug on the first day of the war?

“(34) My sons, Semyon and Vasily,” the old man answers, as if for the first time.

- (35) Who stood in Stalingrad until their last breath?

- (36) My sons, Semyon and Vasily.

- (37) And who fell chest-first into the enemy embrasure?

- (38) My sons...

(39) And then, as if wanting to ask the old man a problem, someone always asks: - (40) How did they get to Berlin, if their chest is on the embrasure, and there is a machine gun?

(41) No, you won’t hit the old man!

“(42) They rose from the embrasure and walked on,” he answers calmly, and in his eyes, covered with smoke, such unshakable confidence appears that none of the listeners dare to doubt the words of the old soldier.

(43) And by that time new questions are already ready, and the old man answers them with restraint and dignity.

- (44) And who detained the “tigers” and “Ferdinands” on the Kursk Bulge?

- (45) My sons...

- (46) Who raised the Red Banner over the Reichstag in Berlin?

- (47) My sons...

- (48) Did you keep up with everything?

- (49) Everywhere. (50) Their legs are young. (51) They walked and walked without rest, but they didn’t have enough strength to return home from the war.

- (52) You still haven’t returned?

- (53) They never returned. (54) They sleep in the grave.

(55) And then one of the guys decides to ask:

- (56) Where is their grave?

(57) The old man straightens up, and the eternal smoke in his eyes dissipates. (58) He says:

- (59) My sons sleep in all the soldiers’ graves. (60) Throughout our native land.

(61) And because the sons of grandfather Peshekhodov sleep in all the mass graves, children’s hot minds again turn them into epic heroes, ready to wake up when the hour strikes! (According to Yu. Yakovlev*)

Arguments from literature

  1. Of course, the young nobleman Pyotr Grinev, the central character of A. S. Pushkin’s novel “The Captain’s Daughter,” can be called a strong-willed and principled person. Despite his young age, Peter was able to make a difficult choice, which was dictated to him by his conscience and idea of honor. He abandoned his dubious friendship with the rebel leader Pugachev, and thereby almost lost his life. However, betrayal was a much worse experience for him. Grinev has more than once shown fortitude and made strong-willed decisions, since “honor” and “duty” were not simple words for him.
  2. One of the most striking examples of amazing will and fortitude is B. Polevoy’s book “The Tale of a Real Man,” based on real events. It describes the story of the Soviet pilot Meresyev, whose plane was shot down over occupied territory during a combat mission. Heavily wounded, the hero made his way to his own people for long days. As a result, he lost both legs, but even this did not break his fighting spirit, and he continued to fight the Germans in the air.
  3. It is not always possible to recognize an unbending will and fortitude in a person. Often such people are calm, modest and inconspicuous, and one may get the wrong impression that they are weak and soft-bodied. So, for example, the hero V. Bykov Sotnikov was a silent, gloomy and frankly unsociable person. However, he was able to prove his courage when, even under terrible torture, he did not betray his comrades and refused to cooperate with the enemy.
  4. The poem “Mtsyri” by M. Yu. Lermontov describes an example of courage, determination and fortitude. The main character, while still a boy, was kidnapped from his native village and given to be raised by monks. Life in a monastery, among strangers, was not an easy test for the proud boy. Having matured, he dared to escape. For three days the young man wandered through the forests, enjoying the long-awaited freedom. He died, but did not regret anything - three days of free life were a true gift from heaven for him.
  5. A. Tvardovsky’s poem “Vasily Terkin” describes a simple Russian guy who honestly fulfills his duty, defending his homeland. He does not see heroism in his actions, and believes that everyone in his place did the same. Terkin demonstrates unprecedented willpower and courage, swimming to the opposite bank of the river under targeted fire. Vasily Terkin is a collective image, and in the person of his hero the author wanted to demonstrate the strength of spirit of the entire Russian people.
  6. Selfless love for the Motherland, amazing willpower, integrity, mutual assistance - all this is described in A. Fadeev’s work “The Young Guard”. The main characters of the novel were united not only by their young age and common goals, but also by fortitude and the desire to defeat a common enemy at any cost.
  7. An excellent example of perseverance and strong will is the hero of N. Leskov’s book “The Enchanted Wanderer.” Even during the most difficult trials in life, he does not give up and courageously carries his cross to the end. Flyagin accomplishes a real feat when, taking pity on completely unfamiliar poor people, he becomes a recruit instead of their only son.
  8. Writer Maxim Gorky was sure that one of the most important qualities of a truly strong person is compassion and the ability to forgive. Being strong does not mean being brave, harsh and unapproachable. The strength of the human soul is revealed, first of all, in sincere love for people, self-sacrifice, and the desire to do something useful for loved ones. The main character of the story “The Old Woman Izergil,” a beautiful young man named Danko, who at the cost of his own life saved his fellow tribesmen, appeared to be exactly such a person.
  9. The main character of Ernest Hemingway's story “The Old Man and the Sea” connected his entire life with the sea element. Already an elderly man, he once again went out to the open sea. However, this time fishing became a real test of strength for him. Santiago fought against the elements until the last, showing incredible fortitude. He lost large prey, but emerged victorious from this fight.
  10. The main character of Alexandre Dumas's novel “The Count of Monte Cristo” has experienced a lot of grief in his lifetime. Betrayed by his best friend, he spent the best years of his life in prison. When fate gave him the opportunity to take revenge on his offenders, the hero made a difficult decision - not to stoop to infamy, but to remain kind and merciful. This indicates that he was an incredibly strong, self-sufficient person.

Now let's look at examples

If earlier, when speaking about strength, we meant, first of all, physical data, but now this concept is much broader. In ancient times, to be considered such, a person only had to kill a mammoth, but now this quality is measured by mental, intellectual and other abilities that make many people not just strong, but unique and great personalities.

Let's get acquainted with examples of strong people who have already made history or are just starting their journey, motivating others to succeed.

Peter I

Peter I is an outstanding ruler who made a significant contribution to the development of the state. He was his father's fourteenth child and his mother's first-born. Peter I's father passed away when the future tsar was not even four years old.

As Tsar, Peter I set himself the goal of raising Russia to the level of successful countries. The ruler divided the country into ten provinces, subordinated the church to the state, founded an army and navy, and also reformed the sphere of education and culture: new educational institutions began to open, and the opportunity to study abroad became available. Thanks to the innovations of Peter I, Russia became an empire, and the ruler received the title of “Great Emperor”.

Some interesting facts: Peter I was a little over two meters tall, but at the same time he had small feet. To correct for this difference, he wore shoes several sizes larger. The emperor was against drunkenness and fought against it with the help of a cast iron medal: it was hung on those who abused alcohol so that it was impossible to remove it, and you had to wear it for seven days. Peter I was versed in various crafts; he mastered the skills of a mason, carpenter, etc.

The king had a stern character, the formation of which was probably influenced by a tragic situation in childhood: in front of the eyes of a little boy, rebels dealt with his relatives. The personality of Peter I still arouses interest, but the fact that he determined the course of Russia's development for many years to come made him one of the great personalities who gave strength to the state.

Yuri Gagarin

Could one day a boy from a simple family have thought that he would become the first person to conquer space? Probably not.

Yuri Gagarin lived in the village of Klushino. In 1941, little Yura was preparing to go to school, but instead of happy days at his desk, he was forced to fight for life, coming face to face with the war. The Germans kicked his family out of their house, where they later set up a workshop. He lived in a dugout with his family for a year and a half without the opportunity to stand up to his full height and move freely.

Despite all the troubles, Yuri Gagarin was able to succeed in his studies, graduated from college, an industrial technical school and entered a sports flying club, where he made his first flight. Once he was almost expelled from school due to the fact that he could not land the plane correctly. In the end, it turned out that his short stature was to blame. The problem was solved by placing a thick pad on the chair.

In 1961, he was included in a group of six candidates for space flight. Yuri Alekseevich successfully passed all the tests and training, leaving no doubt that he should be the chosen one.

Yuri Gagarin died in a plane crash, the cause of which is still controversial. In his note, which he wrote to his wife before flying into space, there was the following: “Once in childhood I read the words of Valery Chkalov: “If there is to be, then to be the first.” So I’m trying to be that and will be until the end.” The spouse received the note only after the pilot’s death [Anews.com, 2020].
