The problem of homeless animals is very relevant in the modern world. Very often we see stories with homeless animals in films and books. Unfortunately, this has become commonplace.

Where is the root of the problem? Where did animals without a home come from? Many people breed purebred animals, and selling them can make good money. If suddenly something went wrong, some inconsistencies with the breed appeared, the pet is no longer needed.

People have forgotten about their responsibility for our little brothers. After all, we are responsible for those we have tamed. However, people have become selfish, evil and heartless. If the animals are not needed, they didn’t bring money, they didn’t please them - they can easily end up on the street.

No one thinks that animals thrown into harsh external conditions experience terrible stress. They feel that they have been thrown away and are no longer needed. Some say this is nonsense. However, it is not. Animals, especially dogs, become very attached to humans. Dogs are ready to do anything for their owner. Their owner is “king and god” for them. When this owner throws them out into the street, they feel terrible rejection. A dog can bring great benefits in life, it just didn’t please you in some way and turned out to be bad and not worthy of love. This is a very big problem.

The Humane Society is trying to introduce some rules for keeping animals. However, this is all currently under development. Concerned people create shelters and organizations in which caring people look for homes for ordinary pets who find themselves on the streets.

The main problem is that it is physically impossible to place all homeless animals in the shelter. Especially in big cities. There are also other problems with stray animals. As a rule, this applies to dogs. They begin to form flocks and can attack children and people. The dogs are angry and often hungry. They feel fear very well, often they just want to take revenge on people for their bad attitude towards them. This is where another serious danger lies.

People need to take our little brothers very seriously. Many people are trying their best to correct the situation. They simply feed hungry animals. They make houses for them out of boxes and place them in hallways or basements so that the animals do not freeze on the cold streets. Caring people also exist and only they make this world at least a little kinder and better. To ensure that there are fewer homeless animals, it is necessary to introduce certain laws that will protect our little brothers.

For a long time, people have tried to tame wild animals. This has been the case for many centuries and continues to this day.

The domestication of animals can have a number of reasons: Social factors - finding a true friend to brighten up loneliness; Material factors - the reproduction of a certain type of animal and the subsequent sale of their sale, as well as a number of other reasons.

The affection of pets can serve as an example for humanity itself, which often does not act at its best. Having played enough of being a good owner, pets and once favorites of the whole family end up on the street.

This is how pets acquire a new status as homeless.

Today it is not uncommon to see stray dogs and cats in our yards and city parks. All these animals were either already born on the street, or were simply thrown away as unnecessary by irresponsible owners.

This situation is indeed a serious problem and is still relevant today.

The seriousness of the problem lies in the fact that wandering the streets does not lead to anything good. There are numerous diseases of animals, which are also their carriers, and, due to aggression, attacks on other animals and even people.

Anyone can help homeless animals. For this purpose, shelters and veterinary clinics are created for these kinds of animals, which are maintained with budget money. Volunteering, which is gaining popularity today, helps to treat homeless animals and their further shelter. Anyone can help by simply sharing some food right on the street. And some, more often lonely people, take homeless people from the streets into their homes, nurse them and give them care.

This type of care gives rise to teaching children to care for and love animals. So that seeing love from an early age, they learned to give it to others.

And annual catching or shooting of animals will not lead to anything good, and will only teach anger and cruelty.

A person's responsibility lies in the fact that he must be responsible for the one he has tamed - in the words of the Little Prince. This simple and uncomplicated truth must always be remembered.

It is necessary to take care of our little brothers, and they will thank you in return with their devotion and kindness!

Homeless animals

In my essay I would like to raise the problem of the importance of homeless animals for modern society. This problem becomes relevant in the context of the development of humanity as a whole. From year to year the number of stray cats and dogs is only increasing. Every animal needs an owner whom it will love with all its little heart, responding to care with endless loyalty[1].

The meaning of this problem is that in this case the person himself is to blame, who has no sense of responsibility. It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that there are many examples of people adopting a puppy or kitten, and after a while, having played enough or having encountered a number of difficulties, they simply throw the pet out into the street. This is a cruel and base act, since it is not the animal’s fault that the owner overestimated his strengths and capabilities, but for a small creature this becomes a difficult, unbearable test.

An animal, once on the street, experiences enormous suffering due to the fact that it is not able to take care of itself, and most importantly, it misses its owner immensely. The dog has lived with people since the dawn of humanity. For example, rescue dogs help rescuers get people out of the rubble; Guide dogs help people with impaired and poor vision walk; service dogs guard various important objects; Decorative dogs, such as Pekingese and Toy Terriers, give people aesthetic pleasure. At a time when the Great Patriotic War was going on, dogs of wounded soldiers from the battlefield[2].

I agree with the opinion that most dogs love a person for who he is, love sincerely, and at the same time do not ask for anything in return. How do we answer them? Little puppies touch people with their clumsiness and the fact that they are extremely funny. After a certain amount of time, puppies turn into adult dogs, which not everyone likes anymore. And people throw such dogs out into the street as if they were tired of things. This is how we betray our most faithful and devoted friends. Homeless animals are doomed to illness, hunger and death. Special attention should be paid to the problems of their injury[3].

A huge number of drivers, having hit a cat or dog, simply drive away and act as if nothing happened. The animal lies and suffers on the road, waiting for help, which will never come to it. And here the question arises: “Who should be called an animal in this case: a stray dog who suffers all its life or a person who condemns a living and once beloved creature to torment?” Among the behavioral characteristics of stray dogs is that they gather in packs and become extremely dangerous. Recently, cases of attacks by stray animals on people have become more frequent. For example, in our town such animals have repeatedly attacked adults and children. What is it: protection or revenge?[4].

Seton-Thompson's "Tales of Animals" says that the mongrel is the most unpretentious and hardy dog. The author is sure that “all dogs will die out, with the exception of the mongrel”[5]. Seton-Thompson writes that if parents want to get a dog for their child, then they should choose not purebred dogs, but the most ordinary stray dog who has already suffered throughout his entire dog life.

Thus, I can conclude that if we help at least one living creature to make a decision in his life, then we will fulfill our duty towards our smaller brothers.

In our city (Arkhangelsk) this problem is very common. And you encounter it almost every day, when, for example, you return home. Homeless animals (mostly dogs) are most often found in remote areas of the city in the courtyards of houses: near garbage containers (in search of food), on store porches, near car garages, under which they often live. This poses a danger to all people, especially, in my opinion, children who love to spend a lot of time outside with their peers. I personally know of a case where, not far from our area, a pack of dogs attacked a 7-year-old child who was returning home from school. The outcome, much to the misfortune of his parents and relatives, was fatal. We also hear quite a lot about other cases of attacks (including throughout the country).

There are also shelters for homeless animals in our city, but they are overcrowded. They were created on the initiative of ordinary people. “The shelter for stray dogs near Arkhangelsk has existed since August 2007. This is a non-governmental organization. It is maintained exclusively by voluntary donations from caring citizens.”[6] Solving problems such as keeping homeless animals, feeding them, and treating them is very expensive not only in terms of physical and moral strength, but also, first of all, financially. Therefore, it seems to me that support for such shelters should be provided by local authorities. This certainly concerns their own interests, since this problem is widespread throughout almost the entire urban area.

How can this problem be solved? Firstly, people must understand for themselves that they are not buying a toy when purchasing an animal, but, first of all, they are taking responsibility for a living being. Based on this, before getting any animal, you need to think carefully, weigh all the pros and cons, and only then make a decision. “We are responsible for those we have tamed”[7] - this phrase from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s fairy tale “The Little Prince” should become the motto of everyone who wants to be worthy of the title of a person.

It is worth noting that people themselves are to blame for this problem. That's why I see it as social. For example, if we consider the root causes of this problem, we can conclude that cats and dogs were initially habituated by man, but then man himself drove them out onto the street, where no one was able to control their spread and reproduction. And, unfortunately, this is still going on. A huge number of people do not consider the issue of owning a pet as seriously as it requires. And if, say, “you’re tired of the dog” or “you’re suddenly allergic to the cat,” then you can free yourself from worries and “put” the animal outside. Nobody thinks about its future fate and the fact that the animal can cause harm to someone[8]. After this, it becomes clear why stray dogs are so aggressive towards people: after betraying a person, she no longer sees the person as a friend, but as an enemy. From all of the above, the question arises: who is aggressive and ruthless, and who can rightfully be called an “animal?”

As a rule, scientists identify three main “sources” of stray dogs in cities[9]. The first is that owners get rid of annoying pets that they got without thinking thoroughly.

The second is uncontrolled breeding.

The third “source” of homeless animals is lost dogs.

Basically, the main role in solving the problem of homeless animals should be played by the government, whose responsibilities should include introducing a set of economic and legal measures that would prevent overproduction of animals (cats and dogs). These measures have gained wide popularity in developed countries. But, unfortunately, these measures have not yet overtaken our country.

Most shelter owners say the government should provide financial assistance and introduce trapping and sterilization programs.

This is all understandable, but what to do with the spiritual cleansing of people?

Homeless animals dying on the streets is a model that provides insight into what is happening across the country. Where is the guarantee that this will not happen to people in the future? We must solve this problem. For example, in developed countries, keeping pets on the street is unacceptable, as this leads to suffering and death of animals and is considered maximum sadism towards them. This is an axiom understandable to all sensible people. In Russia there are no native wild populations of dogs and cats, but only domestic dogs and cats abandoned by their owners or their descendants[10].

But the goal of all humanity is not to create illusions for their own comfort in saving one animal, but to save animals in a country in which there are millions of them, and for this, first of all, it is necessary to understand the reason for what is happening.

The problem of homeless animals is not insoluble. Homeless animals can be saved. The problem has a number of aspects, and in my essay I tried to reveal only one of them: homeless animals as a social problem. The rest were left outside the scope of my research.
