Short essay about the Olympic Games
The Olympic Games for me are competitions of the best athletes in the whole world, I watch them on television every time. The Olympic Games began to be held many centuries ago in Ancient Greece. The Olympic Games were named after Mount Olympus and the city where they were held - Olympia.
The very first competitions were running. When the Olympic Games were held, even wars were suspended. All Greeks came to the Olympic Games. At first only men took part, and only men could watch the games from the stands. I really love watching the Olympic Games and guessing the winner.
Essay History of the Olympic Games
The Olympic Games originated in Ancient Greece long before our era. In those days, all people tried to develop their agility, strength and endurance, because this was very much valued. Warriors of the ancient world fought a lot, and to become a good warrior they had to devote many hours to training. All warriors were powerful, brave and strong-willed, so at first only men took part in the Olympic Games. The Olympic Games were held to appease the gods; it was for the glory of Zeus that these games were held. It was believed that if the celebration of the Olympic Games was magnificent, many athletes took part, many people from all over Greece came to watch the games, then the gods of Olympus would be kind to the Greeks and they would win all wars.
Now the Olympic Games are held to determine the best athletes from all over the world, from all continents. Even the symbol of the Olympic Games is intertwined rings that represent Australia, Africa, Asia, America and Europe. The games take place every four years. There are summer Olympics, the last one was held in 2016 in Brazil, and winter ones - the last one was held in Sochi in 2014. It’s great that the winter games have my favorite competitions – among snowboarders.
There are also the Paralympic Games. They were suggested by a doctor for veterans who returned from World War II with severe injuries and became disabled.
There are many more medals won at the Paralympic Games than at the regular Olympic Games. The Paralympic Games are held immediately after the traditional games, but fewer people watch and attend them.
The last Summer Olympics were held in Brazil, I really supported our team. I followed our athletes in all competitions, I even have the same T-shirt as our team. The whole family gets together and watches the opening and closing of the Olympics.

Introduction. The tradition of the Olympic Games comes from Ancient Greece. Olympus is a high, rocky mountain in northern Greece where the gods were believed to live. We know that the first Olympic Games were held in the city of Olympia more than 2,700 years ago. And since then, with short interruptions, the Olympics (both winter and summer) have been held in many countries. I was interested in the origin and meaning of the word “Olympiad”. So, if you look in the dictionary, you can find out that “…. Olympiad, -s, g.1. (O capital). In Ancient Greece: a gap of 4 years between the Olympic Games.2. (O capital). Same as the Olympic Games. Summer O. White O. (winter).3. Competitions, sports competitions, artistic competitions or in some other field. knowledge. Olympic, -th, -oe and Olympic, -aya, -oe (to 1st and 2nd meanings) original. relating to Olympus, Olympia. Olympic champion. Olympic flame (a torch lit from the sun's rays in Olympia and delivered by a relay to the site of the Olympic Games; a fire lit from this torch and burning in a bowl during the entire duration of these games).” Yes, over time this word has become polysemantic, but still its main meaning is competition, sports competition. During the Olympic Games, competitions and competitions are held in many sports. Famous athletes consider it an honor to participate in the games. The Olympic Games are very popular in our country. The winners of the Olympics are known everywhere. I would also like to say that only an indifferent person does not talk or think about sports in our time. I think, no, I am sure that it is active exercise, and not “swallowing” of various medications, that will lead people to a healthy lifestyle. I am not indifferent to the situation of an unhealthy society, especially since I belong to the younger generation. Therefore, after reading the material, I will try to draw a conclusion about how to live so as not to be drawn into the “medicinal” whirlpool, but to be healthy, strong, and sport was the basis of our life. We are rightfully proud of Russia, It is the only one on Earth, Our Great Power, A young country in soul and heart. Anthem of the Sochi 2014 Olympics We all know that the Olympic Games are a kind of ritual that is aimed at showing the strength, agility and speed of all participants from each country. But the most interesting thing is that even in ancient times they loved sports very much. Good physical shape meant that “a healthy mind in a healthy body.” In history lessons we learned that one of the most popular activities among the ancient Greeks was sports. It was the state that was interested in the population engaging in sports, because it allowed citizens to always be in good physical shape and in case of war to be in combat readiness: In the old days, in the ancient world, Twenty-six centuries ago, Cities did not live in peace, There was war in brother brother And the wisest decided: Eternal quarrels are terrible, You can compete in courage and strength without war! Let someone who is brave and strong come to Olympia; For peaceful battles the stadium will be a battlefield! It was from this time that the heralds spread the good news throughout Hellas in the year of the Olympic Games: “Everyone - to Olympia! Sacred peace declared! The roads are safe! May the strongest win!” And the inhabitants of the country were actively involved in sports, but four of them were of interest to all citizens of the country: the Olympic, Pythian, Isthmian, Nemean Games. Each of these games was dedicated to a god, but the Olympic Games were held once every four years and were dedicated to the god Zeus. It is very interesting and important to know that the first Olympic Games took place in 776 BC. And their participants were the well-known historian Herodotus, the orator Demosthenes, the philosopher Socrates, the mathematician Pythagoras, who became the champion of the Games in fist fighting. ... Time passed. The Olympic Games had to endure a lot on the path of formation (for example, in the second half of the eighth century AD, with the advent of the Romans, the games were banned as a pagan rite). But, in spite of everything, the French teacher and public figure Pierre appealed to all the athletes of the world with a proposal to revive the Olympic Games. In 1894, the new Olympic Games began, which are held every 4 years. The beginning of every good deed must have a specific reason: why, for what purpose? Yes, everything is very simple: it is the Olympic Games that should unite and provide the opportunity to show themselves and represent their country as athletes in fair and equal competitions. And there should be no discrimination. It is not for nothing that the Olympic flag depicts five rings: each ring is a continent that participates in the games (Black - Africa, red - America, blue - Europe, green - Austria, yellow - Asia). The Olympics have their own symbols. If earlier it was a laurel wreath or an olive branch, now, since 1896, it is a flag (first raised in 1914 in honor of the twentieth anniversary of the Olympic Games of the 20th century), an anthem, an Olympic flame (it was first lit at the ninth Summer Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928, and at the Winter Games in Oslo in 1952 and symbolizes the unstoppable will to win. The Olympic torch relay first took place in 1936), the official emblem, symbols and mascot, the motto “Faster, higher, stronger.” The Olympic Games are a good opportunity for all countries and for each country individually to express themselves, to show what their athletes have managed to achieve. Yes, our country did not immediately take part in the Games. But I would like to say that, apparently, everything has its time. What does it take for society to embrace a healthy lifestyle? Of course, the promotion of sports at all levels: only by playing sports can you bring not only yourself, but also your country to a high level. And most importantly, in my opinion, you need to know that sport is not only physical health, but also psychological stability, faith in one’s strength. For the first time, the USSR took part in the seventh Games in 1956 in Cortina d'Ampezzo (Italy). All citizens of our great country worried about their compatriots. And they didn’t let anyone down: after all, they performed for the first time, but the debut turned out to be dizzying - 16 medals, 7 of which were gold, 3 silver (speed skating, cross-country skiing, hockey)! Successful start: faster, higher, stronger! Athletes of the Soviet Union are confidently “stepping” from Olympics to Olympics. A strong power means strong athletes. The whole country watches the athletes and their victories with bated breath. I want to focus only on winter sports. Every four years, the results of the Games only improved. 1960... Games in France... Triumph... The USSR national team becomes the medal champion at the Winter Games and the absolute record holder for the number of victories in the overall standings. 1964… Squaw Valley (USA) VIII Winter Olympic Games – 21 medals (7 gold)…. And so from Olympics to Olympics: there were ups and downs, but our athletes did not lose faith that everything was ahead. The last time, as a huge country, the athletes of the USSR national team won 15 Olympic Games, where the team won a total of 29 medals, but what medals! The beginning of the 90s... Perestroika... Of course, all this affected sports. First, Russia and the former republics of the USSR competed under the flag of the United Team of Independent States, where they took second place. But for the next games, the Russian team began to perform independently. The Russian Olympic Committee provided its emblem - five Olympic rings and an image of a tricolor flame - the color of the State Flag of the Russian Federation. It was with this emblem that Russian athletes defended the country’s honor at the 17th Olympic Games in Lillerhamer (Norway), where the Russian team competed for the first time as a separate country and showed itself to be a strong team. Yes, Norway won in terms of the total number of medals, but Russian athletes took first place in the official standings (11+8+4)! And again, ups and downs... It even happened that the Russian team was only in 11th place in the overall standings (21 winter games in Vancouver (Canada) - only 3 gold medals). But our athletes, and our entire country, are strong because they never give up, but on the contrary, they try to learn from all the mistakes they have made and achieve good results next time. And again we will be “faster, higher and stronger” than everyone! Yes, the best athletes from all continents gather for the Olympics. Here, at the Olympics, someone will receive the great honor of wearing the title of Olympic champion and having an Olympic medal. Everyone knows that this medal is considered the highest award in the sports world, and the title of Olympic champion is given for life. And this, in my opinion, is completely fair. Don't you wonder why? Because the best of the best win the Olympic Games. This is how much willpower you need to have, how talented you need to be in order to win! That is why we can say that sports and the Olympic Games improve a person, help him get closer to the ideal - the gods living on the ancient Greek Olympus. And such strong, worthy people are our famous Russian champions of winter sports: cross-country skiing (Egorova L.I., Lazutina L.E., Smetanina R.P., Zimyatov N.S., Prokurorov A.A., Kulakova G. . A.); biathlon (Privalov A.V., Tikhonov A.I., Ishmuratova S.I.); speed skating (Skoblikova L.P., Averina T.B., Grishin E.R.); hockey (Bobrov V.M., Tretyak V.A., Bure P.V., Starshinov V.I., Firsov A.V., Sologubov N.M.); figure skating (Panin-Kolomenkin N. A., Belousova L. E., Protopopov O. A., Slutskaya I. E., Pakhomova L. A., Gorshkov A. G., Rodnina I. K., Yagudin A. K., Plushenko E. V); freestyle (Cheryazova L. A., Kozhevnikova E. A.). I would really like to say something about our Saratov athletes who took part in the Olympics and brought victorious medals to the country. It was not easy for them, but in conditions of enormous competition they won 11 awards for their Motherland - 4 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals. I am very proud that our fellow countrymen managed to climb onto the Olympic podium. And this did not go unnoticed: on June 17, 2011, a Board of Honor for Saratov athletes - “Alley of Sports Records of the City of Saratov” - was opened near the Central City Swimming Pool. Now residents of Saratov can see the faces of those they can be proud of. Three Saratov athletes are among the candidates for participation in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, which will be held on February 7-23, 2014. According to the Ministry of Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism of the region, the following can become participants in the Olympic Games: biathlete Alexander Loginov, who recently became a two-time world champion among juniors, speed skater Danila Semerikov - winner of the championship and the Russian Cup, bobsledder Yulia Timofeeva, international master of sports, is champion of Russia, participant of the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. We are proud that our country will be the country hosting the Olympic Games for the second time. Not all countries receive this honor: the famous year 1980, when the 22nd Summer Olympic Games were held in Moscow in the Soviet Union. This is evidence of recognition of the authority of our country. And again, but this time in Russia, our country welcomes all the world Olympic champions, but this time at the White Olympics in Sochi. The whole world is watching how the most famous and titled athletes take their last steps, the last lap along the track of the Olympic stadium. And if at the games in Moscow such an honor was given to the famous basketball player, world champion, Olympic champion Sergei Belov, then in Sochi this honor was awarded to the most famous athletes of our Motherland, figure skater Irina Rodnina and the famous hockey player (goalkeeper) Vladislav Tretyak! It seems to me that it is they who, by their presence, call our Olympic athletes to great victories: We call the best athletes to the best land, for sports exams in Sochi. Olympian, if you play, play, So that the eyes of the country will be joyful. We wish victory to our dear team, let failures pass by. Let's raise these words to the top: Russia has medals - hurray for Russia! The Olympic program includes 15 winter sports disciplines, combined into seven Olympic sports: three skating events, six skiing events, two types of bobsleigh, as well as four separate sports - hockey, luge, biathlon and curling. A total of 98 sets of medals are being played out, which is 12 more than in Vancouver in 2010. The Olympics not only unites us all, but also gives authority and respect for life. And the most important thing is to attract us, young people, to sports. Let's think: what does it take for our society to lead a healthy lifestyle? Of course, sports. It is a healthy lifestyle and sport that gives us not only physical health, but we also become psychologically more stable and begin to believe in our strengths. But not everyone thinks so: it’s sad to think that people want to be healthy in the future not through their own efforts, but through drugs and biotechnologies. But their health also depends on their lifestyle. It’s not for nothing that there is a saying that “water does not flow under a lying stone.” And the one who “lies on the stove and grieves for his unfortunate self” will never achieve anything in life. Many people believe that we don’t need sports in our lives. People, look at yourself from the outside: always sick, exhausted, sitting at computers! You have only one method of treatment - “swallowing” various medications! Come to your senses!!! Take the example of Paralympians from all countries: this is who we should learn from in all its manifestations! Set a goal for yourself: playing sports in the system. And then you will all understand that sport is great, it is a way of life. And these are not just my words, but proven by science. I don’t want to say that I myself do sports all the time. But I want to say that we are the “masters” of our lives and we can come to this. It is sport that helps you to be cheerful, cheerful and cheerful, and strengthens you both physically and spiritually. I think it’s impossible to live without sports. And this is easy to prove. Firstly, any physical exercise has a healing and preventive effect. Secondly, sport strengthens human health and spirit. Thirdly, a person who plays sports increases their intelligence. At one time L.N. Tolstoy said that you must shake yourself physically in order to be morally healthy. I would also like to note that sport is a way of self-expression and gaining self-confidence. But we shouldn't forget about how we look. But we all enjoy it when we have a beautiful body! And if we play sports, we will be slim, without excess weight, which “spoils a lot of blood” during school years. Thus, you need to play sports in order to become healthy, agile and strong, to cultivate endurance and endurance, to learn to overcome difficulties and set new challenges. Therefore, I encourage everyone to love sports, which means to love life. Play sports and your life will change for the better! Sometimes I ask myself: would I like to take part in the Olympic Games? Yes, you can’t forbid anyone to dream and fantasize, but I understand that in order to get to the Olympics, and especially to become an Olympic champion, it is very difficult. After all, for this I do not have enough abilities, perseverance and, possibly, hard work. But each of us can play sports and lead a healthy lifestyle: jogging in the morning and evening, physical education lessons, sports competitions, sports competitions (in our area they take place quite often). Yes, I do a little bit for a healthy lifestyle: I wash my face with cold water, sometimes I run, I follow a daily routine, I do light exercises every morning, I ventilate my room. This is what gives you a cheerful charge for the whole day. As they say, a healthy mind in a healthy body! Each of us can perform such a sports minimum per day. The Olympic Games are proof that all people are brothers, that the strongest win in a fair fight, that honor, nobility, and spiritual beauty are above all. The Olympic Games are about meeting ourselves at our best. That is why the love for them, I am sure, will never fade away. We all know that Olympia is located in the western part of the Peloponnesian Peninsula. Here, at the foot of Mount Kronos, in the valley of the Alpheus River, the fire of modern games is still lit. And in conclusion of my work, I want to once again pay tribute to sport, the Olympic Games, and the friendship of all the peoples of the continent: O sport, you are the world! Hope of the world. The hope of the world of all times. And the world glorifies its idols, conquered by their strength of spirit! The garland of generations burns with the Striving for perfection of bodies. With fire in the soul from Prometheus There is no concept of “limit” here. Like five rings, De Coubertin united five continents. They intertwined on a white flag, So that peace reigned over the Earth. And we know that our Russia is glorified as the most “... great power”, which we are proud of, since it (Russia) is always “... a young country” with soul and heart. ” To date, the Olympics, held in Sochi, calls us to active playing sports and a healthy lifestyle.
