“To feel responsible for every human destiny, responsible for every action and every misdeed of a comrade is a wonderful quality.”
A. Aleksin
Topic : Lesson - debate on the story “Meanwhile somewhere” by Anatoly Aleksin.
What should a person be like among people?
The purpose of the lesson
:
- Pedagogical (educational) - to awaken in students a sense of compassion and understanding of the experiences of another person.
- Methodological - create problem situations in the lesson for students to think about.
Equipment for the lesson
: an exhibition of Aleksin’s books, a poster with questions for discussion, a sheet of vocabulary words.
On the board: number, topic of the lesson and topics of miniature essays - homework: “Who am I and what am I?” “What is kindness?” “What is conscience?” “What is debt?”
Teacher:
The topic of our lesson is a debate on Aleksin’s book “Meanwhile, somewhere.” What is a dispute? Look in your notebooks for the meaning of this word. So today we have a public debate on a literary topic. During the dispute, we will solve a number of problems posed by the author of the work. What is the problem? – a complex theoretical question requiring resolution and research.
First of all, let's talk about the author, what do you know about him and his works?
Anatoly Aleksin is a talented Soviet writer. Aleksin’s books are populated by active, energetic people, mostly from twelve to sixteen years old, his heroes are not left idle for a minute, they are always filled with exciting plans for alteration, but, most importantly, in the writer’s works it is not the entertaining plot, but the state of mind that they experience his heroes, solving important life problems. Life tests heroes in every possible way, the reader is interested in what spiritual qualities the hero will show, how he will emerge from these trials, will he retain spiritual purity and nobility? And together with the author we observe, analyze, argue.
And the heroes of the story “Meanwhile, somewhere,” Shurik and Seryozha, also had to go through life’s trials.
What challenges does life pose for Seryozha and Shurik?
*students' answers*
Teacher:
Seryozha is a boy from a prosperous “educated” family. And suddenly a distress signal bursts into this well-being; a stranger is in trouble. What will he do? Which way will it go?
He could not think about this strange woman, forget. But he was saved by the ability to understand another person, the ability to compassion.
All human development stems from compassion for the oppressed, the unfortunate, the offended.
*students' answers*
Teacher:
Shurik: Should I leave or stay with Nina Georgievna?
If you leave, then how to leave; after all, this can be done in different ways. Let's think about this, taking the words of Nina Georgievna: “Then many years ago, it was difficult for me. But now it's even worse. After all, he was my son. And now it turns out that he is not mine. Second loss in life. I was still young then, I had hopes. And now there is nothing anymore. The verdict is final: loneliness.”
And was it possible to leave a lonely, kind, weak, defenseless woman?
Shurik is a man for himself (the class draws a conclusion).
*students' answers*
Teacher
: Sergei came to the aid of Nina Georgievna, but this did not happen right away. What signs of mental deafness does Sergei show at the very beginning of the story?
*students' answers*
Sergei decides, having received the letter, that he will go to the indicated address and, taking a proud pose, will return the letter. Preparing for a meeting with an unfamiliar woman who encroached on the Emelyanovs’ peace, anticipating struggle, persuasion, Sergei throughout the whole day never thought about the lines that were the main ones and for which the letter was written:
“I feel very bad now, Seryozha! Worse than it was that March day. Something bad happened to me." Sergei decides to simply tell the stranger N. Emelyanova that “Father is not in Moscow and that’s all. So that she doesn’t wait.” But that was only the beginning.
And Shurik? How do you evaluate his behavior?
*students' answers*
Shurik, a 14-year-old boy, leaves Nina Georgievna. She raised him and raised him for 14 years. She took him into an orphanage, adopted him, and after Sergei Emelyanov Sr. left, he was the only person close to her. But N.G.’s adopted son grew up to be a petty, mean person. Shurik's egoism is terrible.
Do you agree with Shurik’s opinion about Nina G. that she is “not of this world,” but he seems to be as it should be. That supposedly she could spoil him with kindness. Is it possible to spoil a person with kindness?
*students' answers*
Teacher
: “This can be understood,” says N.G. very often. Onato tries to understand, help, sympathize with everyone, her kindness is immeasurable, her magnificent sincerity attracts the reader. Sergei became a person when he was imbued with pity and compassion for N.G. Now let’s turn to the epigraph and poems of Oleg Shestinsky about kindness.
A problematic situation. But how should one act with compassion? After all, Shurik also sympathizes: he takes everything, runs away, so as not to meet N.G., not to worry her, not to bother her, but this is cruel. What does Seryozha do when he receives a letter from Nina G. ?
*students' answers*
Which kindness is more important? Active intervention or verbal intervention?
*students' answers*
How do you imagine Shurik as an adult? What do you think he could become in adulthood? An engineer, a doctor, a teacher, a worker?
*students' answers*
How do you feel about the fact that Seryozha hides his kindness? What are you for? - Should you speak out loud about your kindness or should you remain silent about it?
*students' answers*
How do you feel about Father Sergei’s words that life should be lived according to a schedule, never violating it?
*students' answers*
Now let’s think about the father’s words: “A person’s life is a route from the Birth station to the Death station with many stops and events along the way. We must complete this route without going astray and without going behind schedule.”
*students' answers*
How do you understand the meaning of the title of the story?
*students' answers*
Teacher
: The author says that if you live according to a schedule and are indifferent to the fates of other people, you do not notice their troubles and misfortunes, while you live like this, meanwhile somewhere... (people need your help).
Chekhov once said very wise words on this topic: “It is necessary that behind the door of every contented, happy person there should be someone with a hammer and constantly remind them by knocking that there are unhappy people, that no matter how happy he is, sooner or later life will show him its claws, trouble, illness, poverty, loss will befall him, and no one will see or hear him, just as now he does not see or hear others...”
Result of the debate: Teacher
: What was the important life lesson that Sergei Emelyanov learned from his acquaintance and friendship with Nina Georgievna?
- Sergei came out, broke out of the limited circle of egoistic feelings and thoughts, and opened up to people around the world as a person who accepted the concerns and anxieties of other people. In one of the last chapters of the story, the hero feels significant, spiritual changes in himself: “Carelessness has left my life.”
- These reflections of Sergei allow us to think that in adulthood he will be a real person.
Teacher
: At the center of Aleksin’s stories is family. In it, a growing person receives the initial, perhaps the most impressive, lessons in morality and ethics. And, like ripples on water, waves of intra-family dependencies spread to those around them, bringing good in some cases, evil in others. Aleksin is on the side of those people who empathize with the pain of others and know how to come to the rescue in time. Sukhomlinsky once uttered wonderful words: “Man has three disasters: death, old age, bad children. No one can close the doors of their house from old age and death, but the children themselves can protect the house from bad children.”

In the 8th grade, during an extracurricular reading lesson, I offer students for discussion Anatoly Aleksin’s story “Meanwhile, Somewhere”... Anatoly Aleksin, as a writer, has a keen sense of time; he is one of the first to raise issues that concern young people. In particular, in this story the author’s focus is on lack of sensitivity, “heart failure,” and pragmatism. And at the same time - the growth of a young soul, the development of character, the formation of a person who comes into conflict with the adult world, with his family. Preparations for the lesson were carried out carefully: an exhibition of works by Anatoly Aleksin was arranged, a list of articles about his work was drawn up, posters with sayings were prepared, which, in the opinion of the children, could serve as an epigraph for the lesson, the students read the works “Heart failure”, “Division of property” , "Mad Evdokia".
First of all, let's talk about the author, what do you know about him and his works?

During the classes
- Checking homework
Three students send photos of “notches on the heart” written in a notebook based on Paustovsky’s story “Telegram”: 7 “A” Matvey Yatskevich, Alina Stoka, Dmitry Butrim; 7 “B” Olekhnovich Ilya, Lebed Ksenia, Savosik Kirill.
- Introduction to the topic
Think about the questions proposed, and you can answer them out loud to your parents. Even if you think to yourself, that's not a bad thing either. You may be more sincere in your answers.
— How do you understand the expression “happy family”?
- For any child, his family is the best, because... (continue this phrase)
You see, guys, that our conversation today began with thoughts about goodness (let’s pay attention to the epigraph, record the topic and epigraph in the notebook) and about happy families. Because these are very necessary and important things for both children and adults. But in life, not everything is smooth and correct. Adults make mistakes too. Why do smart, seemingly exemplary people depart from the ideal? Teenagers often think about this. Anatoly Aleksin writes about this in his story “Meanwhile, somewhere...”.
The story is included for compulsory study in the school curriculum only this academic year. This means that the author expresses ideas in the work that are relevant for modern children. And who is he, Anatoly Aleksin?

Additional information about the writer.
First read the textbook article on pages 137-138.
Anatoly Aleksin's real name is Goberman. His mother was an actress, Aleksina was her stage name. The writer used it when signing his literary works.
The future writer was born in Moscow in 1924. As a teenager, he made his debut in the newspaper Pionerskaya Pravda, where he sent his poems. Later he was published in the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda. In 1950, Aleksin graduated from the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies. In his final years, he actively attended literary evenings, where young writers read and discussed their works. At one of these evenings, Samuil Marshak listened to a short poem by A. Aleksin and was dissatisfied with it, which he did not fail to tell the young author about. Aleksin accidentally happened to have one of his own stories with him (he also wrote prose), and after an angry review by the author of “Twelve Months,” the writer decided to take revenge. Marshak liked the story. Paustovsky, who unexpectedly found himself at a literary evening, also approved of it.
In 1970-1989, Aleksin was secretary of the Writers' Union of the RSFSR, a member of the editorial board of the literary magazine "Yunost", president of the association "Peace for the Children of the World", etc. For almost 10 years he hosted the popular TV show "Faces of Friends". And then he emigrated to Israel. On May 1, 2021, at the age of 93, he died in Luxembourg.
—
The author in the epigraph urges us to hurry to do good. Did he know how to do it himself?
- Commented reading “The Tale and Its Heroes”
Re-read chapters 1 and 2. Think about the questions:
-How was life for Sergei Jr. in the family? Did he consider himself an adult? How did this maturity manifest itself?
— Did you notice signs of spiritual deafness in Sergei at the very beginning of the story?
— Why did Sergei Emelyanov “with his behavior... overturn all the laws of heredity”?
— What does the author call Seryozha’s family? What does "exemplary" mean?
—Who does the author call the wrong people? Are these “wrong people” really that bad?
— Who was Sergei Jr.’s friends? Does his friendship with Anton reveal a positive or negative side?
Read the passage on pp. 185-186, containing Emelyanov Sr.’s reflections on life.
— How do you feel about Father Sergei’s words that life should be lived according to a schedule, never violating it?
—Can all life situations be predicted?
- Appeal to the epigraph
Say the epigraph again. After reading excerpts from A. Aleksin’s story “Meanwhile, somewhere...” you already felt which of the characters was doing good deeds. Who? And How?
- Homework assignment
: read the text of the story to the end, draw the “Emelyanov Jr.” cluster in your notebook.
