This story belongs to the most interesting form of fairy tales - fantasy. Chronologically, the author determined the countdown of all events from some second era. Then the magical people of the elves knew how to forge Rings of Power. And so the evil and treacherous wizard Sauron made his way into their trust. He learned the art of a master blacksmith and forged for himself the magical Ring of Omnipotence. Having taken possession of this ring, he wanted to rule the whole world. He almost succeeded, but the strong and brave Prince Isildur cut off Sauron's finger on which the Ring was. Unfortunately, the prince did not want to destroy it, and the ring began its terrible journey through the fairy-tale world.

The Fellowship of the Ring

Many years passed, and now Sauron wanted to complete the work he had started and conquer all of Middle-earth. Meanwhile, in the fairy-tale land of the Shire, Frodo and his uncle Bilbo live serenely. By chance, the Ring of Power fell into their hands, but they have no idea what terrible and magical power it has. The good and fair wizard Gandalf finds out about this, but Sauron finds out this news. He sends nine Black Horsemen in search of the Ring.

To prevent the disappearance of Middle-earth and deprive Sauron of his magical power, it is necessary to destroy the One Ring. It can only be destroyed where it was forged in the sacred mountain of Orodruen. Gandalf convinces Frodo to show the ring to the council of wizards in Rivendell. They must decide what to do with this ring. His faithful friend Sam and two cheerful hobbits go with Frodo. Already on the very first night they encounter the Black Knights of Sauron, and understand the danger that threatens them. The brave warrior Aragorn helps them escape danger, but, unfortunately, while fleeing from the Black Knights, Frodo is wounded by a poisoned dagger. Despite this, he makes it to Rivendell, and there he is saved from death.

There, at the council of magicians, Gandalf talks about the magical power of the Ring, and the danger that threatens all living things. In addition, he reports that according to the prophecy, only Frodo is able to take this ring to Mount Orodruen and destroy it there. By decision of the council, the wizard Gandalf, Aragorn and Boromir, the elf Legolas and the funny dwarf Giml set off on this dangerous journey along with the hobbits. This is how the Fellowship of the Ring was formed.

Summary

"The Fellowship of the Ring"

Part one

The hobbit Bilbo Baggins decided to magnificently “celebrate his one hundred and eleventh birthday and arrange a particularly magnificent celebration on this occasion.” After the holiday, he informed his young nephew Frodo that he intended to retire. As a parting gift, he gave him a magic ring that could make its owner invisible.

The good wizard Gandalf told Frodo that this was not a simple ring - but the creation of the dark magician Sauron, the famous Ring of Omnipotence. Many years ago he lost it, and with it he lost “the lion’s share of his former strength.” Sauron is ready to make any sacrifice just to get his Ring back and subjugate everything around him.

Gandalf also warned the confused hobbit that the magic ring had a will of its own, and was capable of distorting the thoughts of its owner. To prevent a terrible evil, the Ring must be destroyed. And there is only one way to do this - “get to Orodruin, the Fire Mountain, find the Cracks of Doom - and throw the Ring there.”

Frodo set off on a journey, and with him his faithful friends - the hobbits Sam, Merry and Pepin. They reached the Prancing Pony tavern, where they were joined by the experienced ranger Aragorn, nicknamed the Wanderer.

Soon the Ring was felt by the Nazgul - ghostly black horsemen, faithful servants of Sauron. They rushed in pursuit of the hobbits, and during the battle with them, Frodo was seriously wounded by a Morgul blade.

Part two

With great difficulty, the dying hobbit was taken to the elven city of Rivendell, where the lord of the elves, Elrond, healed him. When Frodo again felt “fresh and healthy,” Gandalf convened a Council, which brought together representatives from different kingdoms. The wizard told the audience about the betrayal of the white magician Saruman, who was enslaved by Sauron. He dreamed of taking possession of the Ring, and everyone urgently needed to take measures to destroy the powerful artifact. Frodo volunteered to carry out this mission, and Elrond said that his only chance was "with speed and stealth." Together with Frodo, his friends the hobbits, Gandalf, the elf Legolas, the dwarf Gimli, Aragorn, who turned out to be the descendants of great kings, and Boromir, the son of the current king of Gondor, set off on the journey. This is how the Fellowship of the Ring was formed.

An attempt to cross the dangerous Caradhras Pass was a failure, and the heroes decided to go through the dungeons of Moria, the ancient kingdom of the dwarves. It was there that the dwarves from time immemorial mined mithril - “true silver, or Morian silver,” which was valued ten times more expensive than gold. It was so gloomy there that “everyone was burning with one desire - to come out into the light as soon as possible.” After long wanderings through the dungeon, the travelers heard a “horn roar hoarsely,” and soon they were attacked by monstrous orcs. The squad miraculously managed to escape from the deadly trap, but during the battle the ancient demon Balrog was disturbed. Gandalf entered into battle with him, and together with his opponent fell into a bottomless abyss. Aragorn became the leader of the detachment.

The travelers safely reached Lothlorien - the wonderful elven “city that promised peace and tranquility to the heart.” Frodo invited Lady Galadriel to take the Ring, but the elf refused, having overcome the greatest temptation within herself.

The detachment continued on its way. At some point, the Ring literally drove Boromir crazy, who tried to take it away from Frodo. The hobbit decided to continue the journey alone, so as not to expose his friends to strong temptation, but the faithful Sam secretly followed him.

"Two Towers"

Part three

The remaining members of the squad were attacked by orcs and goblins. In a fierce battle, Boromir died, and Merry and Pippin were captured. Gimli, Legolas and Aragorn went after the orcs to save the hobbits. Soon they met the brave horsemen of Rohan. In the battle with the Rohirrim, every single orc was defeated, but there were no hobbits among them.

It turned out that Merry and Pippin managed to escape to the forest of Fangorn, where they met ents - ancient creatures that looked like trees. Their leader was the wise Treebeard, guardian of the forest. The hobbits told him about their travels, and Treebeard decided to oppose Saruman, who was mercilessly destroying his forest.

Meanwhile, Gandalf joined Gimli, Aragorn and Legolas. Since their parting he had "passed through fire and deep, deep waters" and was now endowed with the greatest power to save Middle-earth. Together, the heroes went to Rohan to convince King Theoden to gather troops and give battle to Saruman.

The armies of Rohan and Isengard clashed in a fierce battle at Helm's Deep. The Rohirrim fought bravely, “but the enemies kept coming and coming.” Only thanks to the reinforcements brought by Gandalf, the advantage was on the side of the army of Rohan. Meanwhile, the Ents appeared in the arena and managed to destroy the entire enemy garrison. When meeting with Saruman, Gandalf reminded him that he “had no more slaves - some died, others fled,” and for all his neighbors he became a sworn enemy. He demanded from Saruman the “wizard’s staff” as collateral, which he promised to return after his correction. He only laughed in response, and Gandalf completely deprived him of his witchcraft spells, breaking his staff.

Part four

Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam were approaching Mordor. Their guide was Gollum, an evil, vile creature. Once upon a time, he was a hobbit who found himself in the full power of the Ring. Gollum faced a difficult choice - one part of him, still kind, sincerely wanted to help Frodo, the other, mean and treacherous, wanted to destroy the hobbits and take possession of the Ring again.

As a result, Gollum’s evil essence won, and thanks to his efforts, the hobbits fell “into a trap with no escape.” They found themselves in the lair of a huge poisonous spider, Shelob. It was “a dark creature in the guise of a spider, filled with malice and hatred.” Frodo fell victim to his poison, but Sam managed to defeat the monster. He decided that his friend was dead. To finish the job he started, Sam took the Ring and hit the road. Suddenly, orcs appeared in Shelob's cave and took Frodo with them. Sam managed to find out that his friend was still alive.

"Return of the King"

Part five

Gandalf and Pippin went to Gondor to warn the locals about the imminent advance of the army of Mordor. King Theoden sent his army of brave Rohirrim to help Gondor. Meanwhile, Gimli, Legolas and Aragorn walked along the secret path to call upon the Army of the Dead for help. “Ghostly people and ghostly horses, pale banners like fragments of clouds” appeared - the call for help was heard.

The siege of Gondor began, which did not bode well. The situation began to change when the Rohan army, as well as the ghostly army of the Dead, came to the rescue. “The battle was fierce and long,” but the heroes managed to defend Gondor.

At the council of war, it was decided to send troops to the Gates of Mordor, thereby diverting the attention of Sauron and giving Frodo the opportunity to fulfill his important mission.

Part six

Meanwhile, the orcs who had captured Frodo quarreled with each other over the spoils. They started a serious fight, and Sam took advantage of it. He saved a friend who suffered greatly in captivity. The brave hobbits set off on their journey. Sam was ready to “help his owner to the last, and then die next to him.” These thoughts gave strength to the little hobbit, who helped the exhausted Frodo move. The path to the Orodruin volcano turned out to be incredibly difficult, and it was not at all easy for friends to climb it.

Suddenly, the hobbits were attacked by Gollum, whose eyes “burned with wild fire.” Sam grabbed the sword and rushed at Gollum - he “burned with a thirst for revenge and did not forget any of the atrocities committed by this traitor and murderer.” However, the vile creature asked for mercy, and Sam's hand trembled. Gollum hastened to hide.

Meanwhile, the Ring increasingly befuddled the mind of Frodo, who changed his mind about getting rid of it. He “put the Ring on his finger and declared himself its owner.” As a result, Sauron "found out at last who his main enemy had been all this time" and sent his ghosts to the volcano.

A maddened Gollum jumped up to Frodo and bit off the hobbit's finger on which the Ring was. Having taken one wrong step, he stumbled and, together with the Ring, flew into the burning abyss. A terrible roar was heard, the mountain trembled, and everything disappeared, as if in a fog. At that moment, the hobbits felt a joy filling them to the brim, Great, True Joy.

The long-awaited “end of Sauron’s kingdom” has come. The Fellowship of the Ring was again in full force, with the exception of Boromir, who had fallen in battle. At the sight of the brave hobbits, “the warriors immediately drew their swords and, shaking their spears, to the sound of horns and bugles,” began to praise the little brave men, which embarrassed them incredibly.

Aragorn returned the title that belonged to him by birthright - “King of Gondor and Lord of all the Western Lands.” He not only returned his possessions, but also married his beloved - the beautiful daughter of King Elrond, Arwen.

Upon returning home, the hobbits discovered that their country had been captured by the robbers of Saruman. Brave friends raised the people to revolt and drove out the invaders. Saruman was killed by his own servant, who, in a fit of hatred, “slashed him in the throat with a knife.”

Frodo returned to peaceful life. He decided to describe everything that happened to him in the Scarlet Book. Sam got married and “threw himself headlong into work and family joys.” Over time, Frodo became bored with the quiet, peaceful life. Old wounds made themselves felt, he began to feel sad more often. Finally Frodo. Bilbo, Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel sailed on a ship to the distant land of the elves. All magic disappeared with them, and the Fourth Age began - the era of mortal people.

Two fortresses

The Fellowship of the Ring continues its difficult and dangerous journey. In the forest, they are ambushed by Sauram's orc warriors. In this unequal battle, Boromir dies, but saves the lives of Frodo and his comrades. The other two hobbits are kidnapped by enemies, and Aragon, Giml and Legolas, faithful to their duty, set off in pursuit. But the young hobbits Merry and Pippin manage to escape, and they find themselves in a magical forest inhabited by amazing trees that have intelligence like humans and can move long distances. The leader of these amazing Ent creatures carries little hobbits in his crown to the gates of Saruman. There they learn that Gandalf's former comrade has taken the path of betrayal and vowed to serve Sauron. He wants to take possession of the treasured ring and become the owner of complete power over the world. To do this, he creates an entire army of ruthless and merciless killers. Aragon and his friends enter into battle with the enemies. At the ruins of the fortress they meet Gandalf, Pippin and Merry. Gandalf explains that a fierce battle lies ahead with Sauron's army.

At this time, Frodo and his friend Sam overcome the rocks and approach the Dark Kingdom of Sauron. During the descent, Sam managed to catch Gollum who was pursuing them. He also wants to get the ring, but only through cunning and deception. Gollum promises to lead the hobbits through the swamp of the dead to the Dark Kingdom, and he himself plots to lure them into a trap and take possession of the ring.
