In the novel by M. Yu. Lermontov “A Hero of Our Time,” the central character is considered to be Grigory Pechorin, who embodies the collective image of youth of the 1830s. A striking contrast to him is Maxim Maksimych, who also found himself in the conditions of “our time,” but had a completely different path in life. Using the example of this character, the reader can understand that even in the mood of uncertainty characteristic of the period after the Decembrist uprising, a person can remain kind, gentle and honest.
